School Bio

The mission and purpose of the Lavelle School for the Blind is to provide students with visual impairments the skills and training necessary for them to reach their fullest potential in life. The School offers a full range of individualized special education services, supports, and resources to allow students to grow and maximize their independence. We place an emphasis on functional academics, skills in daily living, social interaction, fine and gross motor development, recreation and leisure, use of assistive technology, sensory efficiency, self-determination, as well as prevocational and work ready skills. We educate the whole child through a combination of developmental and functional strategies. All students are prepared for lives as respected adults.
